Abacus Level 2 — Complement Drills
Abacus Level 2 — Complement Drills
Course: Abacus for Children — Level 2
55-problem drill sheet covering 5-complement and 10-complement pairs, 2-digit addition, and 2-digit subtraction. The core practice material for Abacus Level 2. Print one copy per week.
About this drill sheet
Complement rules are the core skill of Abacus Level 2. When you cannot add by pushing more beads directly, you use complements — add the base (5 or 10) and subtract the difference. Practice these drills until the pairs are instant.
5-complement of a number n = 5 − n. When you cannot add directly to the ones rod, use the 5-complement rule.
10-complement of n = 10 − n. When ones rod overflows, use the 10-complement and carry one bead to tens.
Apply complement rules as needed. Use the abacus in your mind — or on paper.
Borrow from the tens rod when the ones rod does not have enough beads.
Score
50+ = Excellent · 40–49 = Good · below 40 = Keep drilling complements
Parent tip
Section A and B are the foundation — do not move to C and D until complement pairs are instant (under 2 seconds per answer). Print one fresh copy per week. Track Section A and B scores over 4 weeks — you will see speed double.
