About this drill sheet

Complement rules are the core skill of Abacus Level 2. When you cannot add by pushing more beads directly, you use complements — add the base (5 or 10) and subtract the difference. Practice these drills until the pairs are instant.

Section A: 5-complement pairs (10 problems)

Section A — 5-Complement PairsRule: adds or removes upper bead + adjusts lower

5-complement of a number n = 5 − n. When you cannot add directly to the ones rod, use the 5-complement rule.
