The skeletal system is the framework of your body — like the steel beams inside a tall building. It is made up of 206 bones that give your body its shape, protect your organs, and allow you to move. Bones also make blood cells in a soft tissue inside them called bone marrow.

★ The smallest bones in your entire body are the three tiny bones inside each ear — the hammer (malleus), anvil (incus), and stirrup (stapes). The stirrup is only 3 mm long, about the size of a grain of rice!
