AI is already in your home
Your child already uses AI — every day. YouTube recommendations, Google search results, autocorrect, voice assistants, and possibly ChatGPT for homework. You don't need to understand how AI works technically. You need to understand what it means for your child.

What AI actually is — simply
AI is a pattern-matching tool. It looks at millions of examples and predicts what comes next. It does NOT think, understand, or know truth.
- It's like autocomplete — it predicts the most likely next word, not the right answer
- It sounds confident even when wrong — it never says 'I don't know'
- It can write an essay that looks perfect but contains completely wrong facts

Where your child encounters AI
AI is everywhere in your child's digital life:
- YouTube: AI chooses what videos appear next (designed to keep watching)
- Google: AI decides which search results appear first
- Social media: AI decides what posts and ads your child sees
- ChatGPT/Bard: AI generates homework answers, essays, and explanations
- Games: AI adjusts difficulty and suggests purchases

The one rule parents need
'AI can help you start, but you must be able to explain the answer in your own words without AI.' If your child can't explain it without the tool, they didn't learn — they copied.

AI answers are not always correct
AI confidently produces wrong answers. It cannot distinguish fact from fiction. It never says 'I'm not sure.' Your child needs to learn: check AI's answer with a real source before trusting it.

Your child shows you a perfectly written homework answer. Ask: 'Can you explain this to me in your own words?' If they can → they used AI as a helper. If they can't → they used AI as a replacement. The question takes 30 seconds.

AI is already in your child's life. Your role: teach the difference between AI as helper vs replacement. One rule: 'Explain it without AI.' One question: 'How do you check if it's right?' That's enough.
