5 scams targeting parents
These are the most common scams parents face:
- 1. Fake school fee messages: 'Pay ₹5,000 immediately or your child will be suspended'
- 2. Delivery OTP scams: 'I'm the delivery person — please share OTP to receive your package'
- 3. Prize/lottery fraud: 'Congratulations! You won ₹10 lakh — pay ₹500 processing fee'
- 4. Bank caller fraud: 'This is SBI. Your account will be blocked. Share your OTP to verify.'
- 5. Investment schemes: 'Guaranteed 30% returns — invest ₹10,000 today'

The universal response: Pause, Verify, Never Share
For ANY suspicious message or call:
- PAUSE: Don't act immediately. Urgency is the scammer's tool.
- VERIFY: Call the real institution directly (school, bank, courier company) using a number you find yourself — not the number in the message.
- NEVER SHARE: OTP, PIN, passwords, bank details — with anyone, ever, for any reason.

No bank, no school, no government office will ever call or message asking for your OTP, PIN, or password. Anyone who does is a scammer. No exceptions.
If you've been scammed, act immediately
Call your bank's customer care immediately. File a complaint at cybercrime.gov.in or call 1930. Change all passwords. Tell family members so they're alert. Don't feel ashamed — scams fool smart people every day.

Lakshmi received a call: 'I'm the delivery person. I need your OTP to deliver the package.' She almost shared it — then remembered: real delivery doesn't need OTP. She hung up. The 'package' never existed.

Scams use urgency to bypass your judgment. Pause before acting. Verify with the real institution. Never share OTP, PIN, or passwords. If scammed: bank call → 1930 report → change passwords. No shame — protect and move forward.
