Discover what mental abacus (Anzan) is, why the bridge from physical beads to mental images is the key to ultimate calculation speed, and exactly how this course will build that bridge.

By the end of this lesson you will be able to— இந்த பாடத்தின் இறுதியில்

  • Define Anzan and understand the three-step progression: physical → bridge → mental
  • Explain what visual working memory is and why it matters for mental calculation
  • Describe the three skills this bridge course builds

Let's Learn

What you will learn today

Understand the difference between physical abacus calculation and mental abacus visualisation.

Two ways to calculate

You already know how to move beads on a real abacus. Now we learn the next step — doing the same thing *inside your mind*, without touching anything.

What is mental abacus?

Mental abacus (called anzan in Japanese) means you picture an abacus in your head. You "see" the beads move, and you read the answer from that mental image — just like reading a real abacus.

Why does it work?

Your brain stores images differently from words and numbers. When you train with a physical abacus, the bead patterns get saved as pictures in your visual memory. Mental abacus lets you replay those pictures at high speed.

💡

The bridge

This course is the bridge. We start with the physical abacus, then slowly move the abacus into your imagination. By the end, the abacus travels with you everywhere — you don't need a physical one.

Remember

Mental abacus is visualisation, not memorisation of rules.

  • Anzan = mental abacus visualisation
  • You already have the patterns in your memory from Levels 1 and 2
  • This course trains you to see and move those patterns without a physical abacus
🌟

Mental abacus is visualisation, not memorisation of rules.

Next we practise seeing abacus values clearly in our mind.

Key Points

  • Anzan is the Japanese word for mental abacus calculation
  • Visual memory stores bead patterns more efficiently than number facts
  • Mental abacus builds on physical abacus skills you already have
  • No new maths rules — the same bead logic, moved to your imagination
  • This course is the bridge between physical and mental calculation
