Let's Learn

What you will learn today

Understand borrowing, returning, and sharing — with fairness and without guilt.

Money between people

So far, we have talked about your own money — earning, saving, spending, budgeting. But money also flows between people. Friends borrow. Families share. Understanding how borrowing and sharing work is essential for keeping relationships healthy and money habits strong.

What is borrowing?

Borrowing means using something that belongs to someone else with the agreement that you will return it. If you borrow a book, you return the book. If you borrow ₹20, you return ₹20. The key word is RETURN. Borrowing without returning is not borrowing — it is taking.

⚠️

Always return what you borrow

Forgetting to return borrowed money is one of the fastest ways to damage trust. If you borrow ₹10 from a friend, return it the next day. If you cannot return it on time, tell them honestly and give a new date. People who return on time build trust. People who forget lose friends.

What is sharing?

Sharing means giving willingly — you choose to give something of yours to someone. Sharing is kind and generous. But sharing is always a CHOICE. Nobody should pressure you into sharing your money or things. It is okay to share. It is also okay to say: 'I am saving right now' or 'I need this for something.'

💡

The borrowing checklist

Before borrowing: (1) Do I really need to borrow, or can I manage without? (2) When exactly will I return it? (3) Have I told the person when I will return it? Before lending: (1) Can I afford to lend this? (2) Am I okay if they forget to return? (3) Have we agreed on a return date?

📐 Adults borrow too

Borrowing is not just for children. Adults borrow from banks to buy homes (home loan), cars (car loan), or start businesses (business loan). They sign agreements to return the money over time, with extra money called interest. The same principle applies: borrow only what you need, and always pay back.

✏️

What would you do?

Scenario: Your friend asks to borrow ₹50. You have ₹80 in your savings. You are saving for a book that costs ₹150. What do you say? There is no single right answer — the skill is thinking it through.

Challenge Round

Fairness reflection

Think of the last time you borrowed something from someone. Did you return it? On time? Now think of the last time someone borrowed from you. Did they return it? How did it feel? Write down one rule you will follow about borrowing from now on.

🌟

Borrowing means using and returning. Sharing means giving by choice. Always return what you borrow on time. It is okay to say no when asked to lend. Trust is built by keeping promises about money.

Next: the final lesson — bringing everything together into your personal money plan.
