Where does money come from?
You now know what money is and how to tell needs from wants. But where does money actually come from? The answer is simple but important: money is earned through work. Every rupee in every wallet was earned by someone doing something useful. Understanding this changes how you think about spending.

Three ways people earn
Most people earn money in one of three ways: (1) A job — working for a company or organisation that pays a salary. (2) A service — doing something useful for others, like a doctor treating patients or a plumber fixing pipes. (3) A business — making or selling something, like a shop owner selling groceries or a farmer selling crops.
- Job — teacher, engineer, nurse, clerk → regular salary
- Service — doctor, plumber, electrician → payment per task
- Business — shop owner, farmer, online seller → profit from sales

📐 Real examples around you
Think about the people in your life: your parent who goes to work, the auto driver who takes you to school, the shopkeeper who sells notebooks, the teacher who prepares lessons, the cook at your school canteen. Every one of them earns money by doing useful work. Different jobs earn different amounts — but all honest work has real value.

Effort → reward connection

Can children earn?

Some families give pocket money as practice money for children to learn with.

No real shortcuts

Pick one adult in your family. Ask them: What is your job? What do you do every day? How long did it take to learn this? What is the hardest part? Write down their answers. You will see: earning money takes real skill, real time, and real effort.
