Let's Learn

What you will learn today

Create strong passwords and keep your accounts safe.

🔁

Quick recall

Name two types of personal information you should never share with strangers online. Good. Now let us learn how to protect the door to all your online accounts: your password.

Why passwords matter

A password is the key to your online accounts — email, school portal, games, social media. If someone guesses your password, they can pretend to be you, read your messages, or change your accounts. A strong password is like a strong lock on your door.

கடவுச்சொல் என்பது உங்கள் ஆன்லைன் கணக்குகளின் சாவி. யாராவது உங்கள் கடவுச்சொல்லை யூகித்தால், அவர்கள் நீங்களாக நடிக்கலாம்.

The 3-rule method for strong passwords

Rule 1: At least 8 characters long. Rule 2: Mix letters (upper and lower), numbers, and at least one symbol (!@#$). Rule 3: No personal information (not your name, birthday, pet's name, or favourite team). Example of a WEAK password: 'ravi2012'. Example of a STRONG password: 'Tiger$Run42!'.

  • Rule 1: 8+ characters
  • Rule 2: Mix of UPPER, lower, numbers, symbols
  • Rule 3: No personal info (name, birthday, pet)

வலுவான கடவுச்சொல்: 8+ எழுத்துக்கள், எழுத்துகள் + எண்கள் + குறியீடுகள், தனிப்பட்ட தகவல் இல்லை.

💡

The passphrase trick

A passphrase is easier to remember than a random password. Pick 3-4 random words and add a number and symbol: 'Moon$River3Cat!' is strong AND memorable. Think of a funny image: a moon made of rivers with 3 cats — you will never forget it.

⚠️

Never reuse passwords

If you use the same password for your email, school account, and a game, and the game gets hacked — now hackers have your email password too. Your email is the most important account because it resets all other passwords. Use a different password for email and school.

🔍

Common password mistakes

These are the most hacked passwords in the world: '123456', 'password', 'qwerty', your name + birth year. Hackers try these first. Also: never share your password with friends. Friendships can change, but a leaked password cannot be un-leaked.

✏️

Create a practice password

Using the 3-rule method, create a strong practice password (do NOT use this for real — just practice the method). Check: is it 8+ characters? Does it have upper, lower, number, and symbol? Does it avoid personal info?

What you learned

A strong password has 8+ characters, a mix of types, and no personal info. Never reuse passwords. Never share passwords with friends. Your email password is the most important one. If you think someone knows your password, change it immediately and tell a parent.

🌟

You can now create strong passwords and understand why account safety matters. Remember: never reuse, never share.

Next: how to spot fake messages and scams that try to steal your information.
