What is a scam?
A scam is a trick designed to steal your money, information, or access. Scammers pretend to be someone you trust — a company, a friend, or even your bank. They create urgency ('Act NOW or lose your account!') and ask for personal information or money. Scams come through email, SMS, WhatsApp, social media, and pop-ups.

The 4 warning signs
Almost every scam has at least one of these: (1) URGENCY — 'Act now! Last chance! Your account will be deleted!' (2) TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE — 'You won ₹10,000! Free iPhone!' (3) REQUESTS FOR PERSONAL INFO — 'Verify your password/bank details.' (4) POOR QUALITY — Bad spelling, odd sender address, strange formatting.

What is phishing?
Phishing is a specific type of scam where someone pretends to be a trusted company (Google, Amazon, your bank) and sends you a message asking you to 'verify' or 'update' your information. They create a fake website that looks real. You enter your password — and now they have it. Remember: REAL companies NEVER ask for your password by email.

The CHECK method
When you receive any suspicious message, use CHECK: C — Consider the source (who sent this?). H — Hold on (do not rush). E — Examine the link (hover over it — does the URL look right?). C — Check with a parent. K — Keep your information private. This works for emails, SMS, WhatsApp, and social media messages.
