The URL bar is your friend
Every website has a URL (web address) at the top of your browser. Look for two things: (1) 'https://' — the 's' stands for 'secure'. (2) A padlock icon next to the URL. If a website has both, your connection to it is encrypted. If it says 'http://' (no 's') or shows a warning icon, be cautious.
- Look for 'https://' — 's' means secure

- Check: does the URL match the website you expected?

Fake safety warnings are the real danger
Some websites show pop-ups that say: 'YOUR PHONE IS INFECTED! Download this antivirus NOW!' This is almost always a scam. The warning itself IS the danger. Real antivirus software does not advertise through browser pop-ups. Close the tab immediately — do not click anything on that page.
Downloads: the hidden risk
Downloading a file from the internet is like letting a stranger into your house. Only download from sources you trust: official app stores (Google Play, Apple App Store), your school portal, or websites your parents approve. Never download 'free' games or apps from random websites — they often contain malware (harmful software).

Use bookmarks
For websites you visit regularly (school, email, favourite learning sites), save them as bookmarks. This way you go directly to the real website instead of searching — which could lead to a fake copy. Ask a parent to help you set up bookmarks for your important sites.
