கீழ் மணிகள் — 1 முதல் 4 வரை
Lower Beads — Counting 1 to 4
Each lower bead equals 1. Push them up one by one to count. Learn how to show 1, 2, 3, and 4 on the abacus.
Let's Learn
What you will learn today
Use lower beads to show the numbers 1, 2, 3, and 4 on the abacus.
You know the parts now. Time to count! Each lower bead is worth 1. To show a number, push lower beads UP toward the dividing bar. Only beads touching the bar are counted.
Quick recap
In Lesson 1, you learned all the parts of the abacus. Now you know the frame, the rods, the dividing bar, and both types of beads. Time to use them!
The counting rule
Push lower beads UP toward the bar to make them count. Pull them DOWN away from the bar to clear them. Only beads touching the bar are part of your number.
📐 Showing 1 — push 1 bead up
Push 1 lower bead up so it touches the bar. One bead touching the bar = 1. The other 3 lower beads stay down.
📐 Showing 2 — push 2 beads up
Push 2 lower beads up. Both touch the bar. Two beads touching = 2.
📐 Showing 3 — push 3 beads up
Push 3 lower beads up. Three beads touching the bar = 3.
📐 Showing 4 — push all 4 lower beads up
Push all 4 lower beads up. All four touching the bar = 4. This is the maximum you can show with lower beads alone.
All four numbers, side by side
Look at 1, 2, 3, and 4 together. Each one has one more bead touching the bar.
Count carefully
If you want to show 3, push exactly 3 beads — not 4. Count your beads carefully before checking your answer.
Watch out!
For numbers 1, 2, 3, 4 — use ONLY lower beads. Do not touch the upper bead yet. Many children push the upper bead for 4, but 4 = four lower beads, NOT the upper bead.
Your turn — show 3
Show the number 3 on the abacus. Use only lower beads.
🎯 Goal: Show the number 3
Now try 4
Show the number 4 on the abacus.
🎯 Goal: Show the number 4
Challenge Round
Show 2 — from memory
Can you show the number 2 without looking at the examples? Not too many, not too few — exactly 2!
🎯 Goal: Show the number 2
Excellent! You can show 1, 2, 3, and 4 using lower beads. Remember: push up = counting. Pull down = clearing. The upper bead was not used at all in this lesson — it comes next!
