Upper bead is DOWN. 3 lower beads are UP. Upper bead = 5. Lower beads = 3. Answer: 5 + 3 = 8!

📐 Two-rod challenge — what is this?

Left rod (tens): 1 lower bead up = 10. Right rod (ones): upper bead down + 2 lower beads = 7. Total: 10 + 7 = 17!

Top 3 Level 1 mistakes to avoid

1. Counting beads away from bar (only beads touching bar count). 2. Showing 4 lower beads instead of upper bead for 5. 3. Reading tens before ones on wrong rod (rightmost = ones, always!).
